21 Aug Broken Barrel #3 | Lucky No. 7!
Fairview and the winemaking team are very proud to introduce the third release in the Broken Barrel range, and the next once-off wine in this limited and extremely popular range. Nicknamed ‘Seven’, this blend is an alluring blend of our winemaker’s 7 favourite different grape varieties from various vineyard parcels within the Western Cape, namely: Shiraz, Pinotage, Carignan, Mourvèdre, Tannat, Petite Sirah and Grenache.
As the third edition in our beloved Broken Barrel range and also a 2015 vintage, this remarkable, full-bodied red brilliantly highlights the sheer drinkability of a modern blend. Showing cherry fruit with vanilla and cinnamon spice on the inviting nose, the balanced palate has fresh red fruit with more savoury flavours, finishing off with matured, smooth tannins. In our opinion, this wine really shows the power of the magnificent 7.
Since the maiden release of our Broken Barrel range in 2015, we have seen this exclusive bottling rise to the top as both a Tasting Room and Cellar Door favourite, loved for both its unique label and quality wine. Charles introduced this range when we first launched the online store, wanting to ensure we could offer our extended Fairview family something extra special and exclusive. This coincided perfectly with the fact that out in the vineyards, our winemakers had access to a lot of extra special parcels of vineyard that would get picked, and if not used, get lost away to larger blends.
And so Broken Barrel was born. Broken Barrel wine offers you the limited opportunity to experience a handcrafted, once-off blend that is made using special parcels of vineyard that we isolate during harvest time. This is why every new release dons a new label and is different year on year – because no harvest is the same, with different varieties and vineyards being selected annually for the blend.
Charles and the team decided to name the range ‘Broken Barrel’ because it refers to the fact that once the wine is made, bottled, and sold out, that’s it! No more. Gone forever to the angel’s share. The barrel is truly broken, never to be repeated again. Every release is different, and so it is becoming a true collectors item. It also gives Charles and the Fairview team an opportunity to say thank you to our customers, because we ensure this wine is not available for sale anywhere outside the farm, making it a collector’s item of sorts if you purchase it.
The 2015 sold out within a year, and the last 2015 vintage within 9 months. We’re looking forward to seeing how quickly our 3rd Broken Barrel goes – here’s putting our chances on lucky #7!
